Biography

Music Director and founder of Montreal Intercultural Orchestra, Silvia Tabor has attracted attention for her intense musicality, youthful vibrancy, amazing versatility, assured technique and charismatic presence on the podium. Her conducting repertoire covers a wide range of musical styles, including all epochs from baroque to contemporary music, symphonic and chamber orchestra repertoire, operas and ballets. Under her baton, the Montreal Intercultural Orchestra performed ambitious programs including large-scale works like Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring, Sergei Rachmaninov's Cantata Spring, Boris Pigovat's Holocaust Requiem, and many other captivating masterpieces by Debussy, Ravel, Rimsky- Korsakov, Bizet, Mussorgsky, Beethoven, Enesco, Pozdnyakov, Szymanowski and Karlovic among others, including premieres of contemporary composers.

Already known in Canada as a very exciting conductor of the new generation, Ms. Tabor is quickly becoming recognized as major talent on the international scene. She has collaborated with various symphonic and chamber orchestras, among which: the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Moldova (Chisinau, Moldova), Saint Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra (St. Petersburg, Russia), State Opera Burgas (Burgas, Bulgaria), Beethoven Orchestra (Montreal, Canada), McGill Woodwind Orchestra (Montreal, Canada), Orchestre de l'Université de Montreal, Rose City Chamber Orchestra (Portland, Oregon , USA) and others.

After graduating from the St. Neaga College of Music (Music Theory) and the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts (Conducting) in Chisinau, Moldova, Silvia moved to Montreal, Canada where she continued her studies in conducting, obtaining a Master's degree from McGill University. Ms. Tabor also holds a Doctorate in Orchestra Conducting from the Université de Montréal, where the subject of her doctoral thesis was Opera Boris Godunov - The Value of Musorgsky's Original Orchestration and the Importance of Rimsky-Korsakov's and Shostakovich's Re-orchestrations.

In 2010 Silvia won the Special Prize of National Philharmonic of Moldova "Serghei Lunchevici" in the International Orchestral Conducting Competition held in Chisinau, Moldova. She has also participated in various competitions in Moldova, Romania, Spain, France, Canada and the USA, and attended a series of master classes around the world working with great conductors such as Alexander Polyanichko (conductor at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg), Leonid Korchmar (conductor at the Mariinsky, Theatre in St. Petersburg), Dejan Savic ( conductor and current director at the Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Belgrade, Serbia ), Kenneth Kiesler and the National Arts Centre Orchestra (Ottawa, Canada), Christopher Zimmerman, David Hoose and Alexis Houser among others.

An important role in Silvia career development played the support from Canada Council for the Arts and Conseils des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, both institutions granting her generous scholarships to carry out different projects in Russia, Bulgaria, Spain, USA, Canada and Moldova.
